The Little Boutique Skirt
Skirts continue to remain a very hot item going into Fall and Winter. I like to make them a little longer for the colder seasons, just below the knee. With elastic waists, they are easily made to fit every body type. At AllegroFabrics, Skirt patterns are the most sought-after of all. I carry many of them from every company I can find. From just a few patterns you can vary the style to make a whole wardrobe of skirts. Add a ruffle, some trims, a little tulle, a contrasting band at the hem, a few pockets, and create your own design. Patchwork skirts and stripwork skirts are great to make using some of those left overs from other projects.
Send those little girls off to the playground with leggings under their skirts...keep them warm, even when it is cold out. Knit leggings are very easy to make. AllegroFabrics carries dozens of bolts of knits and some leggings patterns that have just one side seam...Free sheet of Sewing with Knits tips from Patty Young are included with all knit purchases.

All About Knits!
This AllegroFabrics newsletter is all about knits, patterns for knits, some special inspiration to enhance your creativity and especially tips and tutorials from Patty Young on how to work with knits.
Patty has created 5 short videos demonstrating different techniques for hemming knits. You don't need a serger for some, and you don't need a fancy sewing machine, either. Look further to find some pictures of samples made with Michael Miller knits. These fabrics are all cotton, interlock knit, 60 inches wide. They are nice and heavy and very soft. Pre washing is required before cutting, since these knits will shrink more than cotton quilting fabric. They are perfect for making comfy back to school clothing. Start with a pair of easy to make leggings and hem them using one of the tutorials. Knits are actually easier to sew than cotton wovens.
